The Uganda Northern Ireland Schools Partnership Project (TUNISP)

In June 2008, Fr. Aloysius Bukenya visited St. Anne's Catholic Church in Belfast. He represented an interest of some Headteachers in Uganda, to get schools that were interested in creating links with Ugandan schools.

He was introduced to Terry Murphy,( Senior Advisor with CCMS) and the idea of the partnerships started to take flesh.

In 2009 various schools were invited to become part of a consortium of schools from the Greater Belfast area that would form links with schools in Uganda. This led to a visit of a group of 11 school leaders from Uganda, to Belfast in May 2009.

Following the visit to Belfast, the Ugandan consortium extended an invitation, asking if a reciprocal visit could take place.

The main purpose of the visit was to gain a fuller appreciation of their partner schools in their home contexts and the challenges they face.

A return visit to the Ugandan schools will take place on 26 March this year in order to strengthen and develop the links formed last year and secure the permanency of TUNISP (The Ugandan /Northern Ireland Schools Partnerships).

Please help this wonderful cause. If you have any fundrasing ideas or would like to get involved please contact us.
