Step Up Engagement Activities

The Science Department alongside the University of Ulster run engagement activities to encourage students to carry on studying science to A Level and beyond. This year the students took part and competed well in several competitions. The year 10 students entered the “Something’s Cooking” competition in April 2010 and five teams entered mood boards which included a design brief of the product they would cook.

A team including Tony McLaughlin, Martin Bradley, Geraoid Nolan and Gareth Mulgrave made it through to the final.

They designed a meal based around the World Cup in South Africa. They made ‘bunny chow’, a popular South African curry served inside a loaf of crusty bread. They were judged by local celebrity chef Danny Millar. Unfortunately the boys finished just outside the prizes in 5th place.

The engagement activities have been considered a great success and hopefully those who participated will consider a future in the field of science.
