Course Content

The BTEC National Award in Music consists of three core units plus three specialist units:

Core Units (Compulsory)
• Creating a music product
• Planning a music recording
• Sound recording techniques
Specialist Units (choose 3)
• Audio engineering
• Computer music systems
• Introduction to acoustics
• Listening skills for musicians
• Music technology in performance
• Operating live sound
• The music freelance world
• The sound and music industry

Assessment and Grading

Portfolio based assessment with each unit moderated internally and the final portfolios
assessed externally. The BTEC National Award is marked at 3 levels Pass, Merit and
Distinction.

Progression

This course will offer progression into the music industry at many levels and also provides
UCAS points that are required to obtain entry to third level education i.e. HND or Degree.
