Overview

The BTEC National Award in Construction provides a specialist work – related programme of
study covering key knowledge and practical skills required in the sector.

Two year course at 360 guided learning hours – 6 hours per week

Qualification Value

6 units – equivalent to 1 ‘A’ level

Entry Requirements

A GCSE equivalent to at least four passes at Grade C or above ( to include Science,
Mathematics and English)

Course Content

Students must complete all mandatory units plus two Optional units

Mandatory Units
• Health, Safety and Welfare
• Construction and the Environment
• Construction Technology and Design
• Construction Science and Materials
Optional Units
• Mathematics in Construction and the Built Environment
• Planning, Organisation and Control of Resources in Construction and the
Built Environment
• Graphical Detailing in Construction and the Built Environment
• Measuring, Estimating and Tendering Processes in Construction and the
Built Environment
• Surveying in Construction and Civil Engineering

Assessment and Grading

All units are centre assessed and externally moderated by Edexcel. There are no
timetabled exams and students complete assignments at a time which is decided y the
College staff. The full award and units from this qualification are graded as Pass, Merit or
Distinction.
