Our aim in Corpus Christi English department is to provide all our pupils with a stimulating and enjoyable experience so that they develop as confident readers and writers. There are 4 English specialists in the department who are supported by a number of base teachers, classroom assistants, a literacy support assistant and a part time teacher provided by the Belfast Education and Library Board to help raise literacy standards. Among our wide range of resources we have the very latest novels from Darren Shan and Anthony Horowitz to name but a few… We have our very own large, ICT suite of 25 computers, 2 A4 printers, 1 A3 colour printer and a top of the range interactive whiteboard. Key Stage 3
All pupils in KS3 are timetabled for 6 periods of English each week which includes one period of Library Skills and one of Success Maker in years 8 and 9. Pupils are also timetabled for one period of Drama and many of our pupils enjoy taking part in our school shows. Each year we invite a famous author/writer to the college to help improve pupils’ reading and writing skills. We have even had Darren Shan performing from his famous books, ‘Cirque du Freak’ and ‘The Vampires Assistant’ on our own stage! Key Stage 4 At KS4 all pupils are prepared for GCSE English with CCEA.
