Mathematics

Maths is everywhere. We use maths in many areas of our lives including our work, sport, travel and shopping.

We at Corpus Christi encourage pupils to understand the importance of Maths in our lives and develop an interest in the subject by making it relevant and even fun!

Key Stage 3

We are continually revising the standards of achievement of our pupils and our Maths Department has access to a range of ICT equipment including Interactive white board, data projectors and computer suite.

The Successmaker programme operates for all Year 8 and 9 pupils and indicates pupil areas of difficulty and helps implement appropriate remedial strategies. This provision has successfully been achieved through extra teacher support from BELB.

In an effort to cater for a wide ability range, pupils are ‘set’ according to their mathematical ability using the Nfer 11 test at the beginning of Year 8. The progress of each pupil is continually monitored and a pupil may be moved from one set to another when necessary.

Assessment

Homework is a very important element, particularly in the teaching and learning of mathematics. It is necessary to complete homework in order to practice and consolidate what was taught in class on a particular day. Therefore a short homework lasting 10-20 minutes will be set when relevant.

Pupils’ progress is assessed regularly. This may be carried out by any of the following methods:

Homework

Classwork

Term Tests

Oral Discussion

End of Unit Tests
