Technology and Design

Key Stage 3

Technology & Design is a compulsory element of the KS3 curriculum.

Your son will follow areas of study in:

  • Resistant Materials - Wood, Metal & Plastics
  • Electronic Systems
  • Control Mechanical Systems
  • Computer Aided Manufacture [CNC]
  • Computer Aided Design

Taught in a practical workshop environment, the facilities include a Planning room with 10 desktop PC’s and 10 Laptop Computers Electronic systems room , woodcraft Shop and Metalwork Shop.

There is great emphasis in the subject on preparation for the world of work and employment. The career access that the subject offers is wide and varied; with this in mind the vocational and academic pathways your son will embark upon are carefully chosen to meet his individual needs, interests and abilities.

 

Key Stage 4

The department follows the O.C.R. examination board for Resistant Materials and C.E.A. in the delivery of Occupational Studies in Carpentry and joinery, Construction and Engineering disciplines. Students are involved in design and make problem solving activities and practical application of skills in CNC, Design and manufacture.


Candidates following the Occ. Studies pathway can supplement their learning through work experience and ‘hands on’
Experience in the Construction, Engineering and Manufacturing industries. These invaluable placements are sourced and serviced by our Careers Dept.
